Some things to be aware of

Capitalisation

As you start to type into a Word document, Word will capitalise the first letter of the first word you type as soon as you press the space bar. As you continue to type, the words will automatically wrap on the next line when you come to the end of the line. That is, you do not need to press Enter to start a new line. As the insertion point reaches the end of the line, Word automatically starts a new one. You will, however, need to press Enter when you want to add a new paragraph.

Language autocorrect

Autocorrect is a word processing feature that identifies misspelled words and uses algorithms to identify the words most likely to have been intended and edits the text accordingly. Examples of autocorrect include:

  • fixing common misspellings, such as changing “accomodate” to “accommodate”
  • fixing common typos, such as changing “int he” to “in the”.
