Overview

Once Word is open, there are two main components you should know about initially:

  • the main menu which is divided into:
    • menu options presented as tabs that give you access to the different functions and controls you can use to create, present and style your content, like applying different font types, styling text and adding images, tables and charts
    • the ribbon (which groups related functions for the selected tab). The ribbon dynamically changes based on what you are doing. In the example below, the ribbon for “Home” is displayed which groups the most commonly used functions. We’ll explore these in more detail later in this session.
  • the document or main work/display area within which you create your document.
