Are you thinking about actively job hunting? Has it been a while since you’ve edited your resume? Maybe it’s time to update yours.

As part of the Harvest Talent Recruitment team, a bit part of experienced recruiter Hayley Smith’s job to analyse resumes – every day!

Hayley shares some resume tips and tricks that are sure to get you noticed.

These are the main things I look for straight away when a resume lands on my desk:

  1. A brief summary about yourself and what exactly it is you’re looking for.
  2. Employment History – be sure to have your employment history set from most recent to oldest.
    Start with:
    – Job Title
    – Date
    – Company
    – Responsibilities/Duties
    – Achievements
  3. List your education/training – degrees, diplomas, certificates.
  4. Make a list of your key stills e.g ‘stakeholder engagement’ or ‘recruitment and onboarding’.  Make sure these are visible in your job history.
  5. List any software you are competent in using e.g ‘Employment Hero’ or ‘Excel’
  6. If you have any gaps in your employment, be sure to advise why. Recruiters and companies will ask you.
  7. Ensure all your contact details are at the top of your resume and are up to date.
  8. If you’re actively looking for work – create an online presence! LinkedIn is great for this, you can let others know you’re open to work.
  9. Proofread your resume for any spelling mistakes, even get a friend or colleague to read it over for you.’
  10. Keep it simple – you don’t need fancy colours/pictures. A simple font and size is all you need.
  11. Save your resume as a PDF

Start applying! Good luck!
