Are you thinking about actively job hunting? Has it been a while since you’ve edited your resume? Maybe it’s time to update yours.
As part of the Harvest Talent Recruitment team, a bit part of experienced recruiter Hayley Smith’s job to analyse resumes – every day!
Hayley shares some resume tips and tricks that are sure to get you noticed.
These are the main things I look for straight away when a resume lands on my desk:
- A brief summary about yourself and what exactly it is you’re looking for.
- Employment History – be sure to have your employment history set from most recent to oldest.
Start with:
– Job Title
– Date
– Company
– Responsibilities/Duties
– Achievements - List your education/training – degrees, diplomas, certificates.
- Make a list of your key stills e.g ‘stakeholder engagement’ or ‘recruitment and onboarding’. Make sure these are visible in your job history.
- List any software you are competent in using e.g ‘Employment Hero’ or ‘Excel’
- If you have any gaps in your employment, be sure to advise why. Recruiters and companies will ask you.
- Ensure all your contact details are at the top of your resume and are up to date.
- If you’re actively looking for work – create an online presence! LinkedIn is great for this, you can let others know you’re open to work.
- Proofread your resume for any spelling mistakes, even get a friend or colleague to read it over for you.’
- Keep it simple – you don’t need fancy colours/pictures. A simple font and size is all you need.
- Save your resume as a PDF
Start applying! Good luck!
