Conflict Management, Mediations & Investigations | HR Masterclass

About this Event

Conflict Management

Conflict is a fact of life.  How we manage this conflict determines whether it makes a positive or negative contribution to achieving our outcomes and building and strengthening our community. In this session David will give an overview of the approach to conflict management and some basic tools for becoming comfortable and effective in challenging situations.

Mediations & Investigations

Employing and managing staff is becoming increasingly complex and organisations large and small must be HR compliant.

Brett Pomroy is a multi-skilled practitioner within the fields of Industrial Relations, Employee Relations, Equal Opportunity, Labour Management, OHS and WorkCover.

During this masterclass Brett will discuss:

  1. What are Investigations?
  2. Why do we conduct investigations?
  3. Is there a requirement to conduct investigations?
  4. Who should undertake an investigation?
  5. How should investigation be conducted?
  6. Where can investigation reports end up?
  7. Workshops
  8. Questions

An important angle to take on investigations is that they are increasing and we are seeing more and more of these end up in Tribunals and courts, so employers need to get them right. It is also important to understand what to investigate and what not too, then of course, how to reject undertaking an investigation.

About the facilitators

David Davenport

David originally trained as an academic philosopher before making the switch into business and training. He has been a lecturer at the University of Melbourne and Deakin University and was responsible for setting up the KooRight Program in response to the Royal Commission into Aboriginal Deaths in Custody, bringing university–level programs to Aborigines in prisons across Australia. This was the most successful program of its kind in Australia.

David is also a mediator trained by the Queensland Alternative Dispute Resolution Division conducted on behalf of the Aboriginal Legal Rights Movement in South Australia.  David was selected to participate in

Native Title Mediations in outback SA and was part of the mediation training team for the SA Environment Court.

As a trained philosopher and logician, David brings great rigour to training and coaching interactions, cutting through the obscurities that often cloud our vision and undermine the clarity and articulation required for

successful professional outcomes.

Based in Bahrain for 7 years, David was initially the joint Project Director for the National Employment Project and later established a Bahraini government accreditd training institute in Bahrain before returning to Australia in 2012.

Since his return David has developed accredited Front Line Leadership programs which have been offered through locally based RTOs (Registered Training Organisations) in Melbourne and Victoria.

David is a trusted advisor, coach, trainer and consultant, and is recognised for his combination of thoughtful, theory–driven but immediately practical training programs.

Although able to present training and workshops in most soft skill areas, David likes to specialise in leadership and management skills, in particular, those relating to coaching, conflict management, critical thinking and effective leadership.
