GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION Mid-tier multi-disciplinary regional practice seeks a Senior Lawyer with the ambition to head its Workplace Relations practice.
  • Put your career in overdrive
  • Regional Victorian practice with flexibility and remote working offered
  • Established client base and pipeline

About the organisation

Harvest is proud to be partnering with a leading regional mid-tier multi-specialist firm, based in Geelong. With a strong emphasis on giving back to the community, the firm has entrenched itself as a leading employer of choice and one of the preeminent firms in the region.

The firm’s specialist expertise sees them able to handle large and complex matters with interesting clients and cases. Their size and operating model allow them to maintain the exceptional standard of client service they’ve become well-known for.

Through the Covid-19 crisis they have changed their operating model and, with technology and system integration, these innovations will see a practice where work-life balance can truly be achieved for its employees.

While regional, this role no longer requires you to be regionally based. You will balance office/client, court and home-based working according to the demands of the business.

About the role

We are looking for an experienced, professional Senior Lawyer or Special Counsel in Workplace Relations to join this talented team and deliver high quality services to clients. This is a busy practice area with a strong base of existing clients and interesting, quality work.

Reporting to the Managing Principal, you will be the Senior Workplace Relations Lawyer in the Workplace Relations practice and be part of a tight-knit team.

What sets this role apart is that it presents a real opportunity to continue to build an already strong Workplace Relations practice and move to a pivotal leadership role with this firm.

You will possess

  • Problem solving capabilities and an orientation towards continuous improvement – particularly in systems and processes
  • The ability to develop strategic and cohesive partnerships with clients
  • A natural nuance for client training, presentations and networking activities
  • A proven track record of attracting and retaining clients

 You will bring

  • A minimum of five years’ post admission experience in Workplace Relations
  • Leadership capabilities as you mentor and supervise team members
  • A conscientious and collaborative working style
  • A genuine interest in building your practice and developing strong client relationships

 You must have experience in

  • Preparing employment and industrial relations advice;
  • Providing Work Health and Safety advice;
  • Assessing employment related legal risks and advising on commercially relevant options;
  • Advising on remuneration and termination matters;
  • Providing advice on complex employee management issues – employment related claims, investigations and litigation and unfair dismissals; and
  • Advocating in litigated disputes in the Fair Work Commission and State and Federal Courts.

 Why join our client?

This firm sees its people as their greatest and most valued asset and they are a business of people. The practice offers a supportive, flexible workplace culture with a focus on wellness, professional development and opportunity. There is the offer a leave purchase program, a wellbeing program and community-based activities. Most people are engaged on various flexible work arrangements including varied start and finish times, part time, work from home or work from a local branch office.

Some other benefits of employment at this firm include:

  • Flexible work arrangements;
  • Regular fresh fruit;
  • Employee Assistance Program (EAP).
