GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION New entrant to SW Victoria in the defence sector seeks Manufacturing Engineer with AU Citizenship for fitout of assembly plant.

Harvest is partnering with a major player that is ramping up its defence capability in regional Victoria with anticipated commissioning of its assembly plant into 2025. The company, a leading global defence contractor seeks to onboard its Manufacturing Engineers in September 2024, which will include international travel to its global assembly operation to gain a deep understanding of its plant and plant layout, elements of which will be replicated in Australia, in addition to learning more of the company’s global offering. Two vacancies exist, one senior and one mid-level Manufacturing Engineer to join its cohesive and collegiate team.

Reporting to the Manufacturing Engineering Manager the senior Manufacturing Engineer will bring experience and expertise in reading vehicle and/or equipment specifications and parameters and interpreting them to visualise accompanying assembly and cell/pod design and factory layouts. As a senior you will be skilled at analysing, dissecting and critiquing specifications, contracts and other product/plant/manufacturing literature for OEMs.

Other responsibilities include:

  • Leverage off the company’s international installations and concepts to establish the optimum Manufacturing footprint for assembly and production
  • Support the development of the overall manufacturing processes within the manufacturing site.
  • Lead Manufacturing Technical transfer and documentation from International HQ
  • Develop production procedures, documentation and process mapping as required
  • Specification, delivery and commissioning of machinery and equipment
  • Design fixtures and tooling for assembly tasks
  • Create shop floor layout and cell designs
  • Where applicable implement FMEAs, (Failure Mode Effects Analysis) or equivalent risk-based approach methodologies when implementing new designs and equipment
  • Keep up with current and developing engineering trends
  • Produce reports and presentations that support data driven decision making
  • Lead various cross functional and external stakeholder meetings with clear actions and accountabilities assigned
  • Support a positive, “Can do” team approach to tasks, whatever the challenge, to support the company’s long term growth and transformation plans, while delivering- short term milestones, required by customers.
  • Work within the ERP / MRP system to develop manufacturing BOMs that drive downstream activities associated with production orders and routings.

This role will be based in the Greater Geelong region and is site based.

To secure your success you will be a qualified Engineer with manufacturing engineering expertise from the defence, automotive, heavy vehicle or other OEM environment. Preference for those who have undertaken plant fitout, with a head for the most effective design of assembly lines and cells/pods to optimise output.

This ongoing role will move from fit out to manufacturing engineering activities including troubleshooting, debottlenecking and optimising equipment and resources into the future as well as further installations as required.
