Jobseekers, employers, and employment service providers recently gathered for the 2022 Geelong region Jobs Fair.
Jobseekers, employers, and employment service providers gathered at the Arena in North Geelong for the Jobs Fair on 5 April 2022.
It was a great day chatting with jobseekers and discussing current job opportunities and career options from a wide range of industries in and around the Geelong region.
Matching jobseekers with potential positions, the ‘Job Vacancies Board’ was popular with Harvest listing over 30 specialist/professional jobs amidst a sea of jobs!
Tara McCusker managed the Harvest exhibition booth for most of the day. She received many resumes both over the counter and from those who registered with Harvest online via QR code. We will be following up on these registrations and attempting to match jobseekers with suitable roles.
Valuable workshops were on offer throughout the day to help people get job ready and secure their next role. Sara Chehrenegar, Talent Acquisition Specialist at Harvest HR, and Nici Raimondo, Harvest HR’s Trainee, spoke individually in separate panel Q & A sessions.
Sara spoke to the topic, “What Employers Want” in our region, along with major employers, City of Greater Geelong, and Barwon Health. She provided participants with insights into the range of employment opportunities currently available, attributes we look for in a candidate, the recruitment process, and how to prepare for employment.
Nici spoke of her experience as a Trainee on the ‘Apprenticeship and Traineeship’ panel along with representatives from Multiskills Training and Gforce. The purpose of this session was to provide jobseekers with the opportunity to learn and increase awareness of the wide range of apprenticeship and traineeship opportunities available. Information on how to prepare for an apprenticeship or traineeship was also covered.
“I’m learning and enhancing my skills everyday with the support of the team around me. Everyone is willing to help me learn. I have the space to develop my knowledge by asking questions, making a few mistakes here and there but learning from the team but most of all learning by training on the job as well as studying.
That is why the traineeship system ultimately works for me, it is because I can constantly connect the two, I can apply my knowledge that I have learnt in the Business Certificate and vice versa.”
– Nici Raimondo.
Bravo Nici for representing the Traineeship and Apprenticeship cohort and sharing her personal journey with the audience, including her challenges and triumphs in her role at Harvest HR. You can read more about Nici’s journey in her blog titled ‘Finishing Year 12? Considered a Traineeship?’
Held annually and really valuable for anyone who is looking for a job in the Geelong region, the Geelong Jobs Fair is organised by the Australian Government – Department of Education, Skills, and Employment – Workforce Australia.
