Really don’t want to go back to work? Maybe it’s time for a career health check.
COVID-19 has meant working from home is offering a pleasant change to the daily grind. No travel time, time stuck in traffic, no lunches to prepare and hey, most of us ladies are enjoying getting around foundation free!
With “back to work” looming, just how are you feeling?
If you’re not ready to face the office, ask yourself the tough question:
Have you had it too good working remotely or were you unhappy in your career before the crisis hit?
The warning signs
Just like a car needs to go in for a regular service to stay “healthy”, we too need a regular career health check-up.
Signs that we mostly ignore within ourselves sometimes indicate that a health check of our career or work life may be in order.
Thinking pre-crisis, were you unhappy in your job, reluctant to get up and get going in the morning, feeling grumpy, wishing it was Friday when it was only Monday?
Even, now working from home, are you procrastinating or having trouble getting motivated to complete your work?
Whilst most of us feel incredibly lucky to have a job right now and may stay put, remember, it’s better to be happy in your career than stumble along half-heartedly.
It might be time to take a good look at your current career situation and see what the future could look like.
A 5-point Career Health Check
Here’s something you can do straight away:
- Write down three things you enjoy the most about your current job.
- Write down three things you least enjoy about your current job.
- Set a 15-minute timer and brainstorm what you’d like to be doing in the future. Nothing is off limits!
- Are there other opportunities where you currently work?
- Could you use the recent experience to get some flexibility into your current job?
We know where to take our car when the warning signs start flashing. Where do you go when the warning signs flash ‘Career Health Check’? If the indicator light is flashing on your career dashboard we encourage you to find a specialist career coach trained to find the problem and help you fix it!
